Regional Medical Center 12 On Friday, May 18, more than 400 people gathered “down the rabbit hole” at Longleaf Botanical Gardens to celebrate and support our future leaders. Recognizing the legacy of Martha Vandervoort, proceeds of over $100,000 from the 2018 RMC Foundation Garden Jubilee will benefit the scholarship fund in her name, raising awareness about the importance of investing in our youth. Lagina Fillingim, RMC Foundation’s executive director, reflects that “It was an incredible night of community. While a good time was had by all, the best part is helping high school students in pursuit of higher education.” Each year a graduating high school senior in Calhoun County
is awarded a renewable $6,000 annual scholarship to support his or her college education. To be eligible, students must maintain a GPA of
at least 3.0, have financial need and demonstrate leadership, academic promise, strong character and community involvement. “It is truly a privilege to create and host an event that not only celebrates community but also nourishes seeds of hope with investments in our youth,” says Fillingim. “With sincere thanks to the generosity of our attendees and donors, we are able to do both.” 2018 Garden Jubilee Hayleah Higgins graduated from Piedmont High School in May 2018 with a 4.167 GPA and numerous other academic honors. She has been involved with Future Farmers of America (FFA), Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Student Government Association (SGA), and the school’s softball team and band. This fall, Hayleah plans to attend Jacksonville State University in pursuit of a degree in either marketing or psychology. Meet our 2018 scholarship recipients
