Regional Medical Center 10 Flip to page 15 to learn more about our class offerings for expecting parents and families! JENNY MINTON and her husband, Justin, had been trying to start their family for the past two years. A nurse by profession, Jenny not only looked to modern medicine for help, but also to her faith. On Jan. 19, 2018, the Mintons welcomed Anderson Jase at a healthy 8 pounds, 6 ounces. At press time, “AJ” was 14 pounds— and is the light of their lives. When Jenny started her journey to pregnancy with some struggles, her best friend referred her to Joshua Johannson, MD, obstetrician at Regional Medical Center (RMC). “I really like that he’s not a big interventionalist; he just lets everything happen,” says Jenny. “He simply lets your body do what it does, and we put our trust in the Lord for our little miracle.” “But he also explained things along the way,” Jenny recalls. “I read so many books and blogs. It really doesn’t prepare you for your own pregnancy because everyone’s different.” Care they could count on As natives of White Plains, the Mintons didn’t have to look far for a doctor and hospital of choice. Jenny is very familiar with RMC, having started her career here as an oncology nurse. Today, she works with Anniston Oncology. “It was very important to me to deliver at a Baby-Friendly® hospital, where I could experience skin-to-skin and breastfeeding is encouraged,” remarks Jenny. “The staff at RMC was very welcoming and supportive of our birthing plan.” When labor wasn’t progressing as they hoped after 15 hours, Jenny had an epidural. The staff didn’t blink an eye. But she recalls that they didn’t push her to do so for their convenience. And soon enough, they met their “little miracle.” Jenny reflects on the family atmosphere at RMC. The staff employs a team approach, with more than one nurse caring for you. Throughout her short hospital stay and even since going home, she has continued to feel supported by the RMC nurses and lactation consultants. “They are very supportive of all the decisions you make,” she remarks. “They help you weigh your options: if you do this, this happens or this doesn’t happen. It’s been very comforting to me as a first-time mom.” Jenny concludes with her best advice for expectant moms or those considering pregnancy: “Just trust God, and trust your body, because you’re not like your friend or the book you read. And know that God has blessed you with the most amazing job you could ever have…and that’s to be a mom!” ‘God has blessed me with the most amazing job’ “They are very supportive of all the decisions you make.” —Jenny Minton Baby Anderson Jase Minton with his dad, Justin Minton, a firefighter with the Jacksonville Fire Department.
